The team at What's Good at Trader Joe's? reviews Trader Joe's Scallop Bites

Nathan Rodgers, his wife Sonia, and their friend Russ Shelly and his wife Sandy set out almost two years ago to review the cult grocer's some 4,500 products for their site What's Good at Trader Joe's?, and so far they've covered more than 300 products. While the reviewers are fans of Trader Joe's, they take reviewing seriously — their first review was even negative. Here's their process:

• They rate products on a scale of one to 10, 10 being the best.

• For any post, two people rate the product.

• Reviewers give their overall impression and up to five points each.

For Russ, Sonia, Shelly, and Sandy, Trader Joe's Scallop Bites fell into the category of Top 5 Appetizers. Here's their take on the product:

Trader Joe's Scallop Bites (7/10 points)
"More delishy than fishy. These certainly make a decent seafood snack, and would be sure to please a crowd." Read more about this product on What's Good at Trader Joe's?

Trader Joe’s Scallops, Jumbo Wild Caught

These Trader Joe’s scallops have a naturally sweet flavor to them and are super easy to saute, broil or even grill. They are generally a decent size and are priced at under $18/lb which is actually a good value considering how expensive jumbo sea scallops can be at places like Whole Foods. If you defrost these overnight or for half a day in the refrigerator you can put some butter or oil in a pan and get a nice golden crisp on the outside of them. Just like all seafood though, don’t overcook them or they’ll become rubbery. Scallops can differ widely in taste and size, but some have different amounts of added water to them so it can be tough to tell exactly how much of the actual scallop is included in the weight…….…….

  • 110 calories per serving
  • Net Weight: 16 oz
  • Only ingredient is sea scallops
  • 10-20 scallops per pound
  • Wild caught in the North Atlantic
  • A lot of people ask if you can freeze scallops and the answer is a definite yes

Wild Caught Jumbo Sea Scallops at Trader Joe’s

These Trader Joe’s wild caught scallops are incredibly sweet, seafoody and delicious, I just don’t buy them very often since they are pricey. It’s amazing how expensive scallops are, but if you are splurging these really do make your entire house smell amazing when you saute them in butter. How does everyone like to cook these jumbo scallops? Is there a go to sauce or side dish people generally serve when they cook scallops? I think a light butter or white wine sauce goes really well with scallops, so if anyone has a great recipe for a sauce, or even a jarred one at Trader Joe’s, I’d love to hear it!….
