Cold Stone hosts an ice cream social for Make-A-Wish

"Sprinkled with Wishes" — sweet cream ice cream, brownies, rainbow sprinkles, and fudge

Apparently September is Make-a-Wish Month (along with bourbon month?) and Cold Stone is hosting what they call the “World’s Largest Ice Cream Social” for donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 27, anyone who walks into Cold Stone can get a free three-ounce sample of their new “Sprinkled with Wishes” flavor — sweet cream ice cream, brownies, rainbow sprinkles, and fudge. While supplies last, obvi. We would plan for long lines.

So… it is summer. Well, it isn’t really. It is spring but it is a long weekend and the temperature has been hovering around 34 o C the entire weekend. Plus daylight savings just started so it feels like summer. That means it is time for surf, sun and ice cream…or depending how hot it gets hiding away inside waiting for the sun to go down so you don’t faint of heat exhaustion because it is so hot the asphalt has liquefied – that’s Australia for you.

If you don’t know our family has a lot of dietary requirements meaning that a lot of the time we cannot all eat the same ice cream – if we find an ice cream that we can eat. However, the other day I found a really simple ice cream recipe that is super delicious and best of all, we can all eat it. This means it is dairy free, gluten free, soy free, and for the most part, free of other ingredients that we react to (it can be chocolate free but I made a chocolate version). It is also free of any added sugars and as far as ice cream goes quite healthy.

Ingredients

Other ingredients to flavour to taste (eg. Strawberries, unsweetened cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, etc)

  1. Peel, chop and freeze the bananas.
  2. Once the bananas are frozen, place them in a food processor and blitz until broken up.
  3. Add the coconut cream and flavouring and blitz until smooth.
  4. Serve immediately for a soft serve consistency or place in a container and refreeze for a harder consistency – Note: You may need to re-blitz it in the food processor after refreezing to make it smoother.

I made three versions of it this morning. I made a double recipe of chocolate by adding 3½ tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, one and a half recipes of cinnamon by adding 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon (although you will probably want to put less in as this amount makes it very cinnamony) and a single recipe of strawberry by adding six strawberries.

I have a few other ideas of flavours so I am going to keep experimenting over the warmer months as I am sure there are many other nice flavours that people can try. If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to comment.
